Prof. Dr. Deren Özcan

Dermatology Specialist

Born in Niğde in 1974. She completed primary school at Kayseri Atatürk Primary School, secondary school at Kayseri Nuh Mehmet Küçükçalık Anatolian High School, and her high school education at Kayseri Science High School and Bursa Cumhuriyet High School. She studied medicine in the English Programme of Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine, graduating in 2001. She completed her residency in dermatology between 2002 and 2008 at the Department of Dermatology and Venereology, Başkent University Faculty of Medicine.

From May 2008 to October 2009 she carried out her compulsory service at Muş State Hospital, followed by a brief period at Özel Ünye Çakırtepe Hospital. In April 2010 she began her academic career as a faculty member at the Department of Dermatology and Venereology, Başkent University Faculty of Medicine. She was appointed associate professor in 2015 and full professor in 2021.

Throughout her academic career she has been actively involved in teaching both medical students and residents, and has held a range of academic and administrative roles, including responsibility for the dermatology clerkship and course committee, year coordinator, head of department, and member of the faculty board.

She has more than 50 scientific articles published in distinguished national and international journals, with numerous citations to this work, book chapters in dermatology textbooks, and over 100 national and international congress presentations. She has attended courses and training abroad, particularly on hair loss and dermoscopy, has served as an invited speaker and session chair at many scientific meetings, and has received several awards for her scientific work.

She has a good command of English. She is married and the mother of two children.

While practising across all areas of dermatology, her particular interests are hair loss and hair disorders, mole monitoring and digital mole mapping, skin cancers, acne and rosacea, and excessive sweating of the underarms, palms and soles.
