Fungal Testing (KOH Examination)
Fast and reliable diagnosis of fungal infections of the skin, hair and nails.
In the diagnosis of fungal infections of the skin, hair and nails, KOH (potassium hydroxide) examination is a fast, reliable and practical method.
Material obtained by gently scraping the surface of the skin, hair or nail is examined under the microscope with a special solution. The procedure takes only a few minutes and requires no incision or sutures. The result is available within 10–15 minutes, and treatment can begin the same day.
KOH examination allows a fungal infection to be confirmed or ruled out quickly. This prevents unnecessary medication use and allows the most appropriate treatment plan to be established.
It makes an important contribution to reaching the correct diagnosis, particularly where fungal infections can be confused with eczema, psoriasis and certain other skin conditions.
