Wood's Lamp Examination
A fast, painless diagnostic method using ultraviolet light.
Wood's lamp examination is a fast, painless and non-invasive diagnostic method performed using ultraviolet (UV) light of a specific wavelength.
It makes an important contribution to diagnosis in pigmentation disorders such as vitiligo and melasma, and in certain bacterial and fungal infections of the skin. Some changes that cannot be seen under normal light become more apparent under Wood's light.
The examination takes only a few minutes, causes no harm to the skin and requires no special preparation. Evaluated together with the examination findings, it makes reaching the correct diagnosis easier and helps in establishing an appropriate treatment plan.
