Iontophoresis
A drug-free, safe method for excessive sweating of the palms and soles.
Iontophoresis is a drug-free, safe and effective method used in the treatment of excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), particularly of the palms and soles. During treatment, the hands or feet are placed in special trays containing tap water and a low-intensity electric current is applied. This is thought to bring sweating under control by temporarily reducing the activity of the sweat glands.
Treatment is usually planned as 5 days a week for one month, with each session lasting about 20 minutes. A reduction in sweating begins within 1–2 weeks in most patients. To maintain the effect achieved, maintenance sessions are applied every 1–6 weeks after the initial treatment period.
A mild tingling or prickling sensation can rarely occur during the procedure. After application, mild redness or dryness can be seen on the hands and feet. These findings usually resolve within a short time and do not affect daily life.
