PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma)

A widely used supportive treatment that helps renew the hair follicles.

PRP is one of the supportive treatment methods frequently used in the treatment of hair loss. Platelet-rich plasma obtained from the patient's own blood aims, through substances it contains such as growth factors and cytokines, to support the natural renewal process of the hair follicles.

PRP aims to support the nourishment of the hair follicles, help hair grow stronger and healthier, improve hair quality and reduce shedding. Treatment can be applied to the scalp by injection with very fine needles or, in suitable patients, by microneedling.

PRP can be used in the treatment of androgenetic alopecia (male and female pattern hair loss) and telogen effluvium (diffuse hair loss) in particular — sometimes on its own and sometimes as an aid to the primary treatment. It can also be used to support the main treatment in some other types of hair loss where deemed appropriate.

The treatment plan is determined according to the type and severity of the hair loss. Applications are usually carried out at 2–4-week intervals. Initially 4–6 sessions are recommended; maintenance applications can be planned where necessary.
